Description
‘Coral’ is a beautiful dwarf Berberis, a bright and colourful deciduous shrub with large, oval leaves and contrasting yellow-green stems. Preferring a sunny spot, ‘Coral’, has the most spectacular foliage, with incredibly bright red leaves that have a thin line of gold around their edges. A slow growing berberis, it will remain compact, making it a good choice for growing pots. It’s also great in borders and its dwarf height of around 60cm (2ft) means that it’s an excellent for growing as a low hedge, particularly for the edges of borders or along a pathway where the vibrant colour will frame other plants to perfection. Recommended by the RHS as a ‘Plant for Pollinators’, during April and May, small bright yellow flowers emerge, attracting bees and butterflies. These are followed in late summer by small berries, which are great food for your garden birds. Like all Berberis, ‘Coral’ is completely hardy, requiring virtually no maintenance apart from a light trim after the flowers have faded, and again in autumn to keep it to your chosen shape. This is one of the brightest Berberis that you can grow, and is sure to turn up the heat in your garden! Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, ready for planting, reaching a height and spread of 60cm (2ft).
